Being a young player and being called up to the Majors and then to go back down to AAA can be hard on a young player’s mind. Mark Vientos has been one of the Mets top prospects over the last few years and has progressed well with his bat but not so much with his glove. When the season started many thought that Vientos would make the squad as a DH but, the Mets then went out and signed J.D. Martinez. Ultimately this meant that Vientos would be back in Syracuse to start the season. Well, he didn’t waste any time thinking about his demotion as he went down and produced. With the need for another Bat because Martinez is not ready to play every day and the placement of Starling Marte on the bereavement list. Vientos was called up. Late in the game Vientos pinch-hit for Bret Baty and laced a single. In the bottom of the 11th with a runner on and two outs Vientos showed off his power by hitting a 404 ft home run right over the wall in center. The look on his face was electric and the stadium was behind him and of course so were his teammates as they all gathered around home plate to celebrate with him. Mark Vientos right now has found his stride and he might not get the start everyday as a DH as JD Martinez gets himself into the lineup, and once Starling Marte returns, Vientos could be back in Syracuse, but with that big hit on Sunday, Mark Vientos might be ready for the moment when his name is called again.
